At GreyStone, safety isn’t just a motto; it’s a way of life. In addition to receiving top scores in its safety accreditation process, the cooperative completed the 2008 year with no lost-time accidents. We are committed to creating a safer environment at GreyStone and safely delivering members reliable electric service.
Staying Safe Around Electricity
Electricity provides comfort and convenience, powering our homes and business every day. However, electricity can be dangerous and must be handled properly, with care and respect. For a safer home, inside and out, follow important suggestions featured in GreyStone’s Electrical Safety At Home. Remember. Never approach or touch downed power lines. Always assume that downed wires are energized and call GreyStone at 770-942-6576 immediately!
Right-of-Way Clearance
Maintaining property within GreyStone’s distribution system (right-of-way) helps us to safely deliver reliable electric service to members. Members granting GreyStone’s request for right-of-way so service may be provided is a procedure that has been practiced since the rural electrification program began. For more information on this subject, refer to Article 1, section 9 of the Bylaws.
Over time, the growth of trees and underbrush along the right-of-way obstructs power lines. Limbs and branches are trimmed because they break during storms and cause outages. Underbrush can interfere with repair and maintenance of lines and must also be trimmed. It takes years to trim GreyStone’s 6,400 plus miles of power lines. So crews always do a thorough job. Well maintained right-of-way reduces the number of outages and their severity. Please cooperate with our crews as they seek to perform their jobs. It’s for your benefit.
