GreyStone Power Corporation received the U.S. military’s Patriot Award after recently sponsoring a deployment ceremony for a unit of the Army National Guard.

The Family Readiness Group, an organization that supports a unit of deployed soldiers by taking care of their families at home, nominated GreyStone for the honor.

Family Readiness Group representative Stacy Carroll said she recognized GreyStone as a company that goes above and beyond to support soldiers. “GreyStone does a lot to help the military, period,” said Carroll. In her nomination, Stacy also mentioned GreyStone’s support of Soldiers’ Angels, a local organization dedicated to keeping in touch with our soldiers overseas through letters and packages.

Brig. Gen. Thomas L. McCullough (retired), chairman of the Georgia Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, presented the award to GreyStone President/CEO Gary Miller. McCullough said that typically a soldier can nominate his supervisor for the award, and this is the first time he could remember the Family Readiness Group nominating an employer. “The Guard and Reserve could not exist without the support of employers like GreyStone,” said McCullough.

Miller said that the corporation has supported men and women in uniform for years. “We do it because we really believe in what they’re doing.”
Carroll’s unit of the Family Readiness Group supports the 877th Engineers Unit in Augusta and cares for and communicates with soldiers’ families in Paulding, Douglas and Carroll counties. The soldiers who attended the GreyStone-sponsored deployment ceremony are currently serving in Afghanistan.
