Annual Meeting unveils new discount card, return of three directors to the board
Members at GreyStone's Annual Meeting on Oct. 13, 2007 enjoyed a health fair, carnival rides tethered balloon rides in the Touchstone Energy balloon and more in a fun-filled family-focused morning. Members received tips on conserving energy and 1,500 CFL light bulbs were given away to help members start saving energy. Over 2,750 members and their families were served breakfast and an estimated 3,000 were in attendance.
The Co-op Connections Card was highlighted at the event. The free card, which offers valuable discounts to members and connects local businesses to GreyStone's 99,000 members, debuted on Oct. 1, 2007 and continues to grow with both local and national discounts.
At the annual Business Meeting of Members, three positions on GreyStone Power's Board of Directors were up for election in Districts 3, 5 and 9. Members Charles Rutland, Dave Peeples, Jennifer DeNyse, John Teague, Ed Garrard and Justin Schwartz spoke to attendees about their qualifications for the posts, and members voted on each position.
Charles Rutland was re-elected as a Board Member for District 3. He is a long-time resident of Paulding County and has served as a director for 18 years. He is the owner and operator of CER Farms Hay and Cattle. Charles Rutland retired from GreyStone Power Corporation as Department Manager of New Construction after 33 years of service. He currently serves as elected Supervisor for Paulding County of the Coosa River Soil and Water Conservation District. He also serves on the Executive Council of the R.C. & D. Council, an organization dedicated to the preservation of natural resources, conservation and economic development in a nine-county area including Douglas, Paulding, Bartow and Carroll Counties. He is Past President of the Council.
Jennifer DeNyse was re-elected as a Board Member for District 5 and will continue to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the Board. President and chief financial officer of DeNyse Signs/Woodgraphics in Douglasville, she has been on the Board since Spring 2004. Her company was named Douglas County Business of the Year in 2002 and ranks 13th among the nation’s retail sign companies. DeNyse attended the University of Cincinnati in Business Education. She is a member of Douglas Executive Women, Community Character Coalition of Douglas County, American Business Women’s Association, and the Women’s Presidents Organization.
Ed Garrard was re-elected as a Board Member for District 9. A real estate broker and President of Garrard Realty Inc. since 1962, Garrard served four terms as Georgia State Senator representing District 37 from 1967-1976. During that time he was Chairman of the County and Urban Affairs Committee, Vice Chairman of the Human Resources Committee, Member of the Rules and Finance Committees, and was a member of the Atlanta Charter Commission. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943-1946 and was recommended for the Bronze Star for Meritorious Performance of Duty. He is a graduate of Atlanta Law School. He is a Powder Springs resident with three children and six grandchildren. He has served GreyStone members as a Director since 1998.
Bylaw changes as proposed by the board were considered and, after discussion from several members at the business meeting, were tabled until the 2008 Annual Meeting. President/CEO Gary Miller also announced a rate change effective this November as GreyStone works to find ways to meet the rising cost of electricity.
The next meeting of members will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008!
