Green Power EMC to use poultry litter for power in 2008

Green Power EMC is searching for more renewable resources to add to Georgia’s generating capacity. In 2008, 20 megawatts of electricity will be purchased from the first poultry litter-to-energy operation in Georgia. The electricity will be provided by Earth Resources Inc., which is constructing a chicken litter-to-electricity plant near Carnesville, Ga., about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta.

GreyStone Power helped form Green Power EMC, Georgia’s first voluntary renewable energy program, in 2001. The program’s generated 112 million kWh of electricity from landfill gas, lowimpact hydro and solar projects.

Members may support the production of cleaner, greener energy by signing up to sponsor the production of one or more blocks of 150 kWh each month for $5/block. To sign up click 'Subscribe' below.
