Linemen safe a life in Florida, receive Life Saving Award

GreyStone linemen saved a life in Florida while assisting with the power restoration effort after Hurricanes Frances and Ivan. They came upon a fish market and Escambia County Sheriff's Deputies shouting for help. Deputies thought they had found two heart attack victims inside the market.  They had broken out windows but could not get inside due to burglar bars on the windows.

"They were screaming, 'I need you, I need you, I need your wench!'"explains Eddie Elrod.  They asked Elrod and his men to pull out the bars so they could reach the man and woman. Quickly getting their truck into position and putting their large wench into action, the men gained entrance and removed the man and woman from the building.

Elrod and his men were quick to point out to deputies that it was unlikely that both were heart attack victims; carbon monoxide was a more likely scenario.

The couple had been trying to keep the store's fish refrigerated by using three generators, which had produced carbon monoxide, poisoning the air. The woman was found to be deceased at the scene, and although the man was near death, he recovered later in a local hospital.

"I'm proud of my men and I want to recommend them for the Life Saving Award," Elrod said. The linemen were Aaron Parrott, Patrick LeCroy, Matt Williams, Matt Gilbert, Justin Galloway and Elrod.
