Extreme Cold Watch
Dangerously cold wind chills are expected in GreyStone's service area from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon (Feb. 1).
Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
Winter Storm Watch
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect across parts of north and central Georgia from Friday evening through Sunday morning, where measurable snowfall may lead to slippery road conditions.
Very cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills are expected across north and central Georgia this weekend, leading to an extended threat for pipe bursts and cold-related illnesses. Wind chill values between 0 and negative 10 are possible in north Georgia and low single digits to just below zero are possible across all of central Georgia.
